Vendanges en Bourgogne

The grape harvest takes place each year in autumn, generally towards the end of September.
It lasts ten days, according to the climatic conditions and number of grape pickers.
Generally, the team can vary from 10 persons during the week with more than 25 people during the weekends, including 2 to 3 carriers.
The team is made up of students, neighbours, friends, members of the family...
Usually the team is made up of regular grape pickers, but it is still possible to join the team by asking well in advance.

WARNING : no lodging available.

Traditionnally, the grapes are always hand picked.

This method guarantees the best quality wine :
Picked by hand, the grapes remain perfectly unaltered up to their transformation.
The pickers can also choose the ripest grapes.

Gathering grapes is a hard job which demands precision and concentration.

Solidarity has always been a keyword between the grape pickers
who help each other when the need arises.Whatever happens the atmosphere is always excellent !!
The Fifties showed already a cordial and well knit team...

The work of the carrier is extremely physical:
after having filled its hood with the buckets of the vintagers...

...he must cross the vine...

to go to empty it in the bucket...

.....like in the old times !!

The only difference undoubtedly lies in the materials which make the hood: formerly out of metal, the hoods are now made out of glass fibre

The grapes are then transported to the cuvage for the setting out of barrels, and the wine making can then start.
